New advisory group on health

Every day, people use Google to learn more about an illness, drug, or treatment, or simply to research a condition or diagnosis. We want to help users make more empowered and informed healthcare decisions, and have been steadily developing our ability to make our search results more medically relevant and more helpful to users.

Although we have some talented people here with extensive backgrounds in health policy and technology, this is an especially complex area. We often seek expertise from outside the company, and health is no exception. We have formed an advisory council, made up of healthcare experts (Read more...)

And a worthy endeavor Google has taken on. Hopefully the organizer of the advisory group on health has not overlooked the distinguished experts whose careers are about protecting patients from harm and has included nurses as part of the group.

It would be terribly important to include a consumer advocate on the subject of pain and its undertreatment. The undertreatment of pain drives many of our nation's skyrocketing healthcare costs and unnecessarily destroys untold numbers of seriously ill and injured people who could have a reasonable quality of life if they were able to access pain medicines.

Who's missing from your group? Some of the 3 million nurses who care for patients 24/7 in all sorts of settings. Some of the best work on prevention, management of chronic disease, and self-management is developed, done, and evaluated by nurses. I'm sure there are some fabulous individuals who would enhance your work!

Would we have an advisory panel about education and leave teachers out? Good analogy.
All the people on the council are bright & motivated but there is no representative for nursing. What's up with that?
When you put your call light on if you're a patient in the hospital, does a doctor answer it? I've not seen that in my 20+ years as a nurse.
Very sad, needs corrected for a balanced council.
